Enter Tanzania

In June of 2007, courtesy of my friends at International Expeditions, I was privileged to lead two weeks of digital photography workshops in some of Tanzania’s most dramatic locations. We were able to visit the fabled Ngorongoro Crater, the gentle Lake Manyara, and the vast Serengeti plain.

I enjoy intimate close ups and their potential for expressive characteristics, but I’m also interested in the relationship between wildlife and the landscape they inhabit. The rhythmic interplay of the animals as they move is, to me, a source of endless fascination and beauty.

Tanzania’s zebras, present in vast, tightly knit herds, exemplify this idea, so I beg your indulgence for their large numbers present here. However all … impala, giraffe, elephant, hippo… have their own rhythms and gestures which I hope you will enjoy in these photographs.

Field notes: All photographs were taken with a Canon 5D. Lenses included 400mm f/5.6, 70-200mm f/4 IS, and 24-105mm f/4.5 IS.
